As you know, I recently started two positions at UC Berkeley: 50% at the University Health Center and 50% at the Real Estate Division. Already, I have a ton of “oh-shit” moments. (Excuse my French.)
You see, I’m not GREAT with “fun” design challenges. I find myself so driven and zeroed in on tasks, that when I get loose, complete-them-when-you-have-free-time projects, I lose all functionality. My creative spirit gets spooked and it takes a while for me to find it. Don’t worry, though, I’m working on it.
As luck would have it, one of my FIRST tasks here at UHS was to create a FUN and bold name plate for my new office at University Health Services. Something like this should be a breeze for any graphics manager. I was so disappointed and angry at myself for not being able to channel my creative gua. It’s been over 2 months since I got this task and I just barely finished the task. See the final product here –>
Background: Kim (my supervisor and dear friend) and I absolutely love emojis! And we find that the most recently used emojis panel does a great job of explaining where we are in life at the moment. I drew inspiration from that. I wanted our name plates to be descriptive of who we are ..and case in point, emojis are worth a thousand words! ;D
Now onto the next in my task list..
Til next time!
