Dear Community,
It has been a long and humbling week in the movement for Black Lives Matter. There has been an uptick in activity these past 11 days and I imagine it will only escalate between now and the November election (and beyond if these demands are not heard and acted upon).
The fight against police brutality and violence against Black people is one piece of a larger unjust puzzle. From the criminal "justice" system to institutionalized racism to basic needs (food, housing, health, financial security), Black folks are unequivocally exploited systemically. The tragic deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd have lit a path that is illuminating and uncovering the truths that our capitalistic society have tried so hard to deny. We can no longer look away.
Here is what I have to offer:
Conversation: If you have questions about anything that is going on, please feel free to comment below or direct message me with your questions and it will be received without judgment. I do NOT know everything, but I am learning too. I feel connected to a wise group of friends and colleagues that I can lean on for advice and resources. Transformational change doesn't happen without great conversation. Even if you and I may not agree, I'd like to hear from you.
Creativity: If I can support you in organizing by designing a poster, developing a communications plan, or connecting you to another creative, do not hesitate to reach out.
I am seeing glimmers of progress and we can all take part (everyone's advocacy is going to look different) to make sure it continues to move forward.
Take care,
Ashley
