Vision Board, 2015-16 by Ashley Villanueva

A glimpse of my 2015-16.

A glimpse of my 2015-16.

Inspired by Levo League’s article “3 Steps to Creating a Personal Mission Statement” and Fast Company’s Leadership Newsletter, I put together a vision board.

It’s somewhat divided into three categories: present, near future, and future future.

  • Present: I want to be creative. I want to take this single-responsible-for-myself-only time to get into a really solid creative routine. Build my portfolio and make my connections. Figure out what my muses are. My most productive time of the day. I want to own my time and create a brand for myself.
  • Near future: I want to travel. See the world!! Explore, learn about other cultures, and share my own.
  • Future future: Fall in love without fear, build a family, and be a damn good cook

I was just comparing this to my list of life priorities:

  1. To contribute to my family with emotional, social, and financial support
  2. To make sure I lead a healthy life: exercise/meditation, food, and rest
  3. To continually educate myself through current events, leisurely reading, travel, and meeting others
  4. To “be there” for my friends and family when they need comfort and companionship; to have a positive presence for those around me
  5. To have a job that I enjoy going to

My vision board is now on the wall of my apartment and I see it every day. And  with every passing day, (*humblebrag alert*) I am very proud of who I’m becoming. I’m very thankful for the tools and resources out there helping young professionals grow into the person they aspire to be! Lastly, I feel very lucky to have a strong support system.

Til next time,
Ash xo

PS. I hope this blog post captures the ambition and excitement I have for the future. And I can look back at it for inspiration when I feel low.

Social media campaign: Fiat Health! by Ashley Villanueva

Many of you know that in November 2014, I took on a 2-part job: half-time at the Real Estate Division and half-time at University Health Services, Tang Center as the Web and Graphics Manager. In July 2015, UHS offered me a fill-time position. I was elated and gladly accepted the offer.

In this role, I’ve been tasked with leading the web redesign, tighten the branding, and taking over their Be Well @ Cal social media brand. In September, I launched my first social media campaign–Fiat Health, Let there be health! In alignment with the beginning of the school year, we shared 30 wellness tips over 30 days. ((Rebelmouse feed of all 30 tips))

Here’s the final product:

This was the most popular wellness tip, which we adapted for Instagram:

With every passing day, I’m becoming so much more confident with my graphic design style. Can you tell? Awesome.

Success!

Challenge: Design new name plates by Ashley Villanueva

As you know, I recently started two positions at UC Berkeley: 50% at the University Health Center and 50% at the Real Estate Division. Already, I have a ton of “oh-shit” moments. (Excuse my French.)

You see, I’m not GREAT with “fun” design challenges. I find myself so driven and zeroed in on tasks, that when I get loose, complete-them-when-you-have-free-time projects, I lose all functionality. My creative spirit gets spooked and it takes a while for me to find it. Don’t worry, though, I’m working on it.

As luck would have it, one of my FIRST tasks here at UHS was to create a FUN and bold name plate for my new office at University Health Services. Something like this should be a breeze for any graphics manager. I was so disappointed and angry at myself for not being able to channel my creative gua. It’s been over 2 months since I got this task and I just barely finished the task. See the final product here –>

Background: Kim (my supervisor and dear friend) and I absolutely love emojis! And we find that the most recently used emojis panel does a great job of explaining where we are in life at the moment. I drew inspiration from that. I wanted our name plates to be descriptive of who we are ..and case in point, emojis are worth a thousand words! ;D

Now onto the next in my task list..

Til next time!
